Waldron Bryon Scott Jr. ("Scotty"), born July 14, 1929 in Omaha Nebraska, the son of Waldron and Ann Scott, went home to be with the LORD in Miramar, Florida, in his home, surrounded by his wife of 31 years, Georgia D. Scott and family.
Missiologist, evangelical leader, and author of several books, Waldron held various leadership positions within The Navigators beginning in 1955, including Middle East Director, Asia Director and Global Planning Director. Subsequently, on loan from The Navigators, he became the first full-time General Secretary of the World Evangelical Fellowship (now WEA). He moved fluently in ecumenical circles, especially after producing the acclaimed The Task Before Us for the opening evening of the first Lausanne Congress. WEF more than doubled their affiliated national fellowships during his tenure. In 1981, he moved on to become President of the American Leprosy Missions and later founded Holistic Ministries International, and with his second wife Georgia started Loving Care Early Learning Center, a Christian School, which thrived under the auspices of HMI.
"Waldron Scott was a prophetic thinker," former Navigators US Director Alan Andrews says. "He combined a profound intellect with prophetic vision and biblical insight. He saw things that the rest of us are only beginning to understand decades later."
Waldron is survived by his wife Georgia Dyke Scott, her children Lynn, Ivy and "Bo" and five children from his first marriage to Joan Marie Scott: Melody, Cheryl, Greg, Doug and Linda along with ten grandchildren and one great grandson. Also his brothers David Scott of California and cousin Joanne Lindsey of Kansas.
"He was a brilliant, one of a kind, determined, stimulating the rest of us to grow spiritually, intellectually and emotionally. We should all be so lucky to know we made a real difference," his eldest daughter, Melody Scott Zindell says. "I honor you, love you and will miss you dad!"
While we all will miss you, we take comfort in knowing you have fully completed your journey on earth and with joy heard the words, "welcome my good and faithful servant." What a journey indeed!
