Wilfredo Colon

Wilfredo Colón passed away on April 6, 2022.  He was 77 years old.  Wilfredo was born to Celinda Gonzalez Morales and Manuel Colón Rivera in Garrochales, Puerto Rico on October, 29 1944.  He was raised by his mother and step father Luis Maldonado. His family left Puerto Rico when he was very young and moved to NYC.  He  grew up in Bronx, NY with Celinda, Luis, and his sisters Aurea and Doris.  He became a Dental Technician in NYC.  Later in life he met his father, Manuel Colón and his sisters Cuca and Norma who resided in Puerto Rico.  They made up for several missed years and their families grew to love one another.   Eventually, he relocated to Port Jervis, a small town in upstate New York.  This is where he met and married his wife Estervina Vargas Velez (Lila).  They were married on April 24, 1971 and had three children:  Nydia, Freddy and Gabriel.  He lived and raised his children in Port Jervis, NY for 32 years where he worked for the Port Jervis School District till his retirement.  In 2003, he relocated to the warmth and sunshine of Hollywood, Florida due to health reasons.  He enjoyed his remaining years with his wife in Hollywood, FL.  Wilfredo was a dedicated husband and father.  He loved his family with all his heart.  He was an extremely hard worker.  His love of family and hard work are definitely instilled in his children and family today.  Wilfredo is survived by his wife, Estervina Colón (Lila) of Hollywood, FL, who he loved dearly till his last breath.   He is also survived by his three children.  His daughter Nydia Arcos and her husband Richard Arcos of Sunrise, FL, along with their children/his grandchildren: Christina, Ricky and AJ Arcos.  His sons Gabriel Colón of Seattle, WA as well as Freddy Colón and his wife Amy Outwater of Port Jervis, NY, along with their children/his grandchildren: Rhianna and Erika Colón, Samantha and Patrick Outwater.  His sisters Aurea Martinez of Port Jervis, NY, Doris Reifler and her husband Chuck Reifler of Providence, RI, Norma Iris Colón Alicea and her husband Carmelo Agueda of Garrochales, Puerto Rico and Cruz Rivera Colón Alicea (Cuca) of Hollywood, FL.   He is also survived by several nieces and nephews Manny Rivera, Yolanda Hopper, Raul Martinez, Yvette Martinez, Vanessa Rivera, Daniel and Brian Reifler, Alex Candelaria, Joan and Susana Agueda.  He will be dearly missed but we know he is at peace in a loving place where there is no more pain with God.  Services will be held at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, FL on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022, from 12-2pm.  Public visitation will be held from 12-1pm, Memorial and Religious Service will commence at 1pm.
