

Born on November 15, 1930, in Guys Hill, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Winifred was the cherished daughter of Stephen Martin and Doris McDowell. She spent her early years in Jamaica, attending school in her hometown of Guys Hill, before embarking on a life full of adventure and love.
In 1952, Winifred married Joslyn Edwards, and together they had three sons in Jamaica. In 1955, Winifred left for England, where she spent several years before returning to Jamaica in 1958. Upon her return to Jamaica, she had two daughters and three more sons, raising a total of eight children. During this time, Winifred was a successful businesswoman, known for her entrepreneurial spirit and determination.
In 1968, Winifred immigrated to the United States, settling in Toledo, Ohio. There, she worked at St. Vincent Hospital and later at the General Motors Transmission Plant, where she dedicated many years of service before retiring.
Winifred was also an active member of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Toledo, Ohio, where she joyfully sang in the choir. Her faith was a central part of her life, and she found great comfort in her church community.
Winifred later married Winston Stewart on December 29, 1988, and they shared many years together. Throughout her life, she was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her nurturing spirit and unwavering love for her family.
Winifred lived in Toledo, Ohio, and Margate, Florida, where she was a valued member of both communities, offering warmth, kindness, and a sense of belonging to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joslyn Edwards; her father, Stephen Martin; her mother, Doris McDowell; five sisters; five brothers; and two children, Norman Edwards and Howard Edwards; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
Winifred is survived by her loving husband, Winston Stewart; children Barrington and Marjorie Edwards, Delroy and Denise Edwards, Dorian Edwards, Castella Edwards, Jennifer and William Darby, and Karen and Keith Berman; step-children Morlene Roberts, Richard Stewart, Calvin Stewart, Denise Griffiths, Chad Stewart, Christopher Stewart, and Kaydene Stewart; her sister Carmen Martin; 42 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33024.
