Phyllis was born on June 24, 1944, in Moberly, Missouri to James and Marie Burton. She attended and graduated from Moberly Public Schools. On December 23, 1961, Phyllis married Dwayne Stroppel.
The couple settled in Jacksonville, Missouri where they lived on a farm for most of their married years. They had three daughters, Marsha (Kenny) Corzette, Kimberly (Kenny) Schumann, and Angela (Robert) Oliver.
Phyllis spent the majority of her working years as a Medical Receptionist for Dr. Conley and Dr. Michael Daly at Doctors Park in Moberly. She also worked a short time at Maple Lawn Nursing Home and enjoyed selling Mary Kay alongside her now late best friend, Loretta.
While Phyllis had many hobbies and talents, her most well-known was her beautiful organ and piano music. She could play anything you would put in front of her! She was Organist/Pianist at Jacksonville/Cairo Unity Christian Church for over 40 years. Then, after moving to New Bloomfield, Missouri in 2008, she was Organist/Pianist for New Bloomfield Christian Church where she played for nearly 17 years. She would also play for various other events such as weddings, funerals, and graduations throughout both areas.
Phyllis had other hobbies she enjoyed such as sewing, bird watching, playing music at the nursing homes, canning from the garden, cooking big family dinners, and baking. She could definitely serve a delicious roast for Sunday dinner, or sure make a delicious variety of homemade candies for the Holidays!
