Rose M. Alger

Born November 5, 1927, Rose was the daughter of the late William and Pauline Craig Knapp, Sr. of Coldbrook, NY. She grew up in Coldbrook and attended Homer School District.

She married the late Walter C. Alger in 1968. She attended the North Chemung United Methodist Church.

Rose worked at Loblaws Supermarket in Cortland, NY for 17 years and at Stop And Go Convenience Store in Horseheads for four years.

Rose is survived by her brother, William (Rhonda) Knapp, Jr. of Elberton, GA; aunt, Rose Craig of Spafford, NY; stepsons, Walter of Newark Valley and Richard (Martie) Alger of Cortland; a special niece, Sherry (John) Bennett of Painted Post, NY; daughter-in-law, Kay Alger of Homer; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Walt, who passed in 2003, she was predeceased by her son, Daniel J. Knapp in 1968, and brothers, Leslie, Morris and James Joseph Knapp.

In accordance with Rose’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.

Friends, loved ones and all who knew her are welcome to attend a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Coldbrook Valley Cemetery with Pastor Bernard Possee officiating.
