

Alexander P. “Bob” Foley died on Saturday, 11 October, 2014 at 2pm, following a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Myrtis Adams Foley and five children: Joan Foley, Patty Lott (Robert), Michael J. Foley, Samuel A. Foley (Dale), and Leslie Noble, and one brother, Bill Foley. His grandchildren are: Lyndsey Stewart, Emily Mundt, Samantha Sandefur (Thomas), Abigail Noble, Rachel Lott, Alex Lott, Laura Lee Gilliland, and Emma Noble. He had two great-grandsons: James Creed and Parker Mundt, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was very loving and proud of his family.
Bob was one of nine children of Scottish and Irish immigrant parents, and attributed his strong work ethic and sense of family loyalty to his parents’ influence. He met Myrtis while stationed in Albany, Georgia. He was retired from the Air Force, where he served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1957 from the school of Mechanical Engineering, and spent most of his career as an engineer and manager of water supply utilities. In 1971, he moved to Birmingham to serve as General Manager of the Industrial Water Board, and retired in 1992. He has lived in Homewood, Alabama since that time, serving as proud patriarch for his large family.
Services are Tuesday, October 14 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Visitation is 11 a.m. and the funeral is at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery on Highway 119.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
