Alfred Lawrence "Larry" Merrill

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 11:30AM until 12:30PM at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, with a service to follow.

Larry was born to Sue Choat and Alfred Pickens Merrill on January 24,1942. He attended Woodlawn High School, and graduated from Auburn University in 1964. He was married to his wife of 57 years, Caroline McGee Merrill, until her death in 2022. Larry was predeceased by his only sibling, Donald Wayne Merrill in August 2024. He is survived by his daughter, Natalie (Sean) Smith; his son, Alfred Lawrence “Larry” Merrill, Jr. (Laura); five grandchildren, Ryan Smith (Morgan), Blake Smith, Lawrence Merrill, Chandler Merrill, and Brent Merrill; and one great grandchild, Stetson Smith. He also leaves behind special friend, Kim Kimbrough. The family would like to express their gratitude for the staff at Brookwood Hospital Cardiac ICU.

Larry was a longtime resident of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, and was very involved in Vestavia youth sports throughout his life, both through coaching, and supporting his children and grandchildren. Larry loved travel, the lake, music, sunshine, the poultry business, and his family.
