
Alma Apperson Stein, 94, died April 14, 2016, following an extended illness. The oldest of ten children, Mrs. Stein was born in Fairfield, Alabama, on December 29, 1921. She was a lifelong opera fan, a former member of the Opera Birmingham Board and worked as a pyschometrist in the office of Dr. Herbert W. Eber. She was predeceased by her mother, Amelia Perry Apperson; her husband, Harold Stein; a sister, Marnie Gregory; two brothers, Sam and David Apperson; and a grandson, Kevin Butrus. Survivors include two daughters, Camille Butrus, Birmingham, and Carole Wilder (John), St. Augustine; a son, Michael Stein (Susan), Birmingham; grandchildren Greg (Annie) Butrus, Birmingham, Anna and Ayal Stein, Miami, Asaf Stein, Memphis, and Yona Stein, Homewood; great-grandchildren, John, Tommy, Julia and Kate Butrus; two sisters, Tiny Douglas and Lottie Jacks, Birmingham; four brothers, Charles Apperson (Winnie), Raleigh, N.C., Gordon Apperson (Nell) and John Apperson (Helen), Birmingham, and Cecil Apperson (Pat), Boise, Idaho. Graveside service at Knesset Israel Cemetery at 2:00 PM Sunday April 17 2016, with Rabbi Randall J. Konigsburg officiating. Her family is grateful for the care she received at South Haven, Hoover.
