Annie Laura Burton

Annie Laura Burton, age 88 of Homewood, passed away on September 18, 2017. She was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for 75 years and taught Sunday school in the children’s department for over 50 years. Mrs. Burton was affectionately known as the “Uniform Lady” sewing and mending the uniforms for the Homewood High School Band for 42 years. Recognized in 2003 as Homewood Citizen of the Year for her untold hours of volunteer work in her community.

Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her husband Gene Kenneth Burton. She is survived by her 4 children: Mike Burton(Diane) of Holly Pond, Gail Gough (Charles) of Hoover, Loretta Strouss (Bill) of Springville and Keith Burton (Vicki) of Hoover, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 20th from 5 until 7 p.m. at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Visitation will be also be on Thursday, September 21st at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church from 1 until 2 pm with the Celebration of Life service following at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Annie Laura Burton may be made to the Homewood High School Band Uniform Fund, 1901 South Lakeshore Drive, Homewood, AL 35209.
