

Anthony Joseph Bruno, DVM, age 67, of Cashiers, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoinette Bruno and Anthony John Bruno. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Knowles Bruno, and his devoted sons, Anthony John Bruno, Alexander Michael Bruno, and John Christopher Bruno. He is also survived by four sisters, Francis Bruno, Joanne Bruno, Nina Wright (and her husband, Bobby), Marguerite Gorman, and his brother, Michael Bruno, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Additionally, Anthony is survived by his beloved pets, Jack and Adabelle.
Dr. Bruno grew up in Homewood and graduated from John Carroll High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry in 1981, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. In 1988, he founded the Animal Medical Center in metro Atlanta, where he served as president and medical director for 34 years until retiring in 2022. An active member of the Alpha Psi Fraternity (An American social and professional Veterinary Medicine fraternity), Anthony remained engaged in their philanthropic activities throughout his life. He was also a proud member of the Centennial Club at Auburn University.
As a parishioner of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Highlands, North Carolina, he found community and purpose in his faith. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Anthony cherished time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed snow skiing, hiking, boating, pickleball, traveling, and creating lasting memories with his wife, Anne, and their sons, AJ, Alexander, and John.
Friends are cordially invited to pay their respects and celebrate Anthony’s life with the family from ten o’clock in the morning until eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 7th of February, at Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church located at 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, Alabama 35216. A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at eleven o’clock in the morning where the Very Reverend Vernon F. Huguley will celebrate. Immediately following the service, the Rite of Committal will be offered in Birmingham’s Historic Elmwood Cemetery where Anthony will be laid to rest along with many of his family.
In this time of sorrow, we remember Anthony as a loving husband, devoted son, father, brother, and friend whose legacy of compassion and dedication will forever remain in our hearts.
Flowers will be graciously accepted or for those who prefer, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Anthony's name be directed to Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church located at 315 North 5th Street, Highlands, North Carolina 28741.
