It is with great sadness that the family of Anthony Paul Romano, Jr. announces his passing on Wednesday, July 12, 2018. Anthony was born on June 17, 1954 in Birmingham to the late Anthony “Tony” Paul Romano and Grace Marie Canzoneri Romano of Inglenook.
He was a loving husband, father, "Pop", brother, and uncle to his family. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years Denise, his daughter Elizabeth (Andrew) Fontenot and his son Charles Anthony Romano. He is survived by his sisters Mary Frances Romano, Gina (Larry) DiChiara, his brother Claude (Beth) Romano, his grandson, Conner and several nieces and nephews.
Anthony graduated from John Carroll High School and attended Jacksonville State University. He served as a mentor and impacted the lives of many young men in athletics, as well as collegiate scholarship programs. He also served as a leader for the Birmingham Storm. He loved sports, especially golf and Alabama football.
At the young age of 20 years old, he and his family founded the Cedar House Cafeteria. The business thrived in part due to his friendly, witty personality, his love of people and, of course, his unique pecan pies.
The visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood on Sunday June 15th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Rosary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Hoover on Monday, July 16th, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery.
