

Askew Marable, age 84, died peacefully at his home on Aug. 14, 2016. Born Sept. 6, 1931 in Memphis TN to Charles E. Marable, Sr.,and Lorene Askew Marable. Raised in Erin, TN, he attended the Columbia Military Academy and upon graduation enrolled in the University of North Alabama. It was there he met his future bride, Elizabeth (Betty) Jackson of Florence, AL. He later transferred to and graduated from Athens College. He then enlisted into the U.S. Army and the married couple was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX. After his discharge, he relocated to Florence, AL where he began his 45 yr. building materials sales career, later transferred to Macon GA and eventually settled in Mtn. Brook, AL, his home of 50 years . He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a charter member of Inverness Country Club. It was there that he made his first “hole in one,”and was a member of “the Legends” golfing group. Askew was also a charter member of St. Peters Anglican Church where he served as an usher and greeter.
He is survived by his wife of 64 yrs., Elizabeth (Betty) Jackson Marable, a son, John J. Marable (Missy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, a daughter, Katheryn (Kathy) M. Newman (Sandy) of Mtn. Brook, AL, five grandchildren, James (Jay)Askew Cooke (Dee) of Chelsea, AL, Marjorie Elizabeth Marable of Opelika, AL, Morgan Jackson Cooke of Mtn. Brook, AL, Melissa Conolly Marable and Mary Katheryn Marable of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and a great grandson, James Beckett Cooke of Chelsea, AL. He is also survived by a brother, Charles E. Marable, Jr.(Shirlye) of Batesville, AR, sister in law, Joan Jackson Emmons of Sheffield, AL and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the clergy and members of St. Peters Church, David Wynne, MD and the wonderful caring angels of Expect Care Hospice and Expect Change Private Care for their prayers, loving support and care.
Visitation will be held Fri., Aug.19, 10 AM, at St. Peters Anglican Church, 3207 Montevallo Rd., Mtn. Brook, AL 35223.Funeral services at 11 PM. Rev. Mark Quay officiating.
Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, AL at 1 PM. Honorary pallbearers will be “the Legends” of Inverness, CC golfing group.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Peters Anglican Church, Mtn. Brook, AL.
