Bee Atkinson

Atkinson, Janet “Bee”, died December 1, 2014. She was born on October 26, 1949 in Birmingham, AL and attended Homewood Schools. Her loving parents, Charlie and Kitty Atkinson preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, John Powell, sister, Cheri Atkinson Grundhoefer and nephew Andrew.

Bee graduated from JSU where she was a member of the inaugural Gamecock Chicks and received her MBA at UAB. She held office in KDE, ADK and Alpha Xi Delta sororities as well as NEA, AEA and JCEA education organizations, along with ARRA and the Animal Adoption Society. Bee loving touched the lives of over 1000 students as an elementary teacher at St. Francis Xavier, Concord and Bluff Park Schools. She was a long time member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher and Stephen Minister.

Bee was the sweetest dearest wife, sister and aunt/Godmother. She was a true Christian that lived her faith by loving and helping others. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed. Now God has another angel.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 4th, 2014 at 3:30 at Ridout's Valley Chapel, with a reception following the service. In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to Our Lady of Sorrows School Foundation, 1720 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209.
