Betty Jane (BJ) Watts, 91, of Birmingham, AL passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2021. Through His wonderful gifts of faith and grace to her, BJ no longer sees Jesus, her Savior and Lord, dimly but now face to face, in the unhindered joy of His presence for which she has longed.
BJ loved, enjoyed and cared for people. One of the many ways she lived that out was by praying for those who came to the Advent House for prayer – one of her favorite ministries. She was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in her latter years, where so thoroughly enjoyed worshipping her God and hearing the good news of the gospel preached. BJ attended Stephens Women’s College and graduated from the University of Alabama. She lived an active life with her husband Ed, playing tennis, sailing the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, canoeing the Cahaba River, and traveling to many places in this world.
BJ was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edgar Reid Watts, Jr., and infant son, Edgar Reid Watts, III and her brother, George Rush. She is survived by four of her children, Sharon Adams (Jerry), Laura Fernambucq (Rick), Shelby Watts (Beth) and Allison Romano (Sam); nine grandchildren, Clay Adams (Tiffany), JR Adams (April), Richie Fernambucq (Jennifer), Reid Fernambucq (Caitlin), Elizabeth Callen (Alex), Alan Watts (Jacqueline), Grace Asbury (Duncan), Lauren Cecil (Austin), Kristen Romano; and twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday November 30th, 2021 at Forest Hill Cemetery.
