

Catherine “Cathy” Oliva, 83, of Toms River, NJ, passed away, Sunday, May 23, 2021, in Birmingham, AL, after a long battle with lung cancer. Cathy was born on December 1, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York. She worked for many years at the NY Department of Motor Vehicles until she retired in 2005 and moved to New Jersey. Cathy recently moved to Birmingham to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching Yankee games, going to the casinos in Atlantic City, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Oliva, her parents, Raymond and Josephine Tyrrell, and her sisters, Joan Evans and Madeline Cutrone.
Cathy is survived by her son Anthony “Tony” Oliva and his wife Cheryl of Birmingham, AL; her daughter Jennifer Ralph and her husband Kevin of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Kevin and Jessica Ralph, and Claire Oliva; and many nieces and nephews, including niece, Debra Cutrone, who lovingly helped take care of her Aunt Cassy in New Jersey.
The family will be accepting visitors on Thursday, June 3rd, from 4:30-6:30 at Ridouts Valley Chapel at 1800 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL, 35209. Funeral services for family only will take place on Friday, June 4th, at 10:15 in the morning at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Edward.
