Chan served in the Army during WWII and in the Air National Guard post war. He worked for The Coca-Cola Company for 37 years managing bottling plants throughout the State of Florida. He and Vera retired to a farm in Southeast Georgia where they resided for 23 years, raising cattle and crops. In 2012, they moved to Birmingham. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and the Presbyterian Church.
Chan is predeceased by his wife Vera Hitchcock; sisters Lucille Stroberg and June Cantrell and is survived by his two daughters, Gail Magnus (Milton) and Wendy Morrow; grandchildren Claire Thomas (John), Ellen Hawley (Brad), Mack Magnus (Stephanie) and Kelsey Morrow; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Activities Fund at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home (1784 Elkahatchee Road, Alexander City, AL 35010) or Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church (3405 Brookwood Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223).
