After a brief illness, while surrounded by her family, Charlotte Jackson Whitaker went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2024. Charlotte was born on September 25, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama to Richard Lee Jackson and Ellen Cross Jackson. She graduated from The Brooke Hill School in 1966 and from the University of Mississippi in 1970. She was a member of the Birmingham Debutante Club of 1969 and was presented at the Beaux Arts Krewe Ball and the Ball of Roses. A long-time member of St. Mary’s-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church, Charlotte was a devoted participant in the Creative Arts Ministry, using her knitting skills to create shawls, hats and gloves for the children at the Amistad Mission in Bolivia. She enriched her community as an officer of The Discovery Place Guild (McWane Center), the Junior League of Birmingham and the Linly Heflin Unit. The epitome of a southern lady, Charlotte was beautiful, charming and unfailingly generous. She had a wide circle of friends she enjoyed spending time with and brought together for all sorts of activities and occasions. Charlotte loved being with her family, especially during annual summer vacations which she planned with care and pleasure. She was very proud of her sons and their families and adored her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Meade, to whom she was a loving wife for 52 years, and by her sons, Meade Whitaker, III, his wife Natalie, their daughter Ellie, and Richard Davies Whitaker, his wife Rebecca, their children Kara Leigh and Jackson. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Lee Jackson, Jr, his wife Dara, and their children Laura Williams and her husband J.D., and Richard Lee “Trey” Jackson, III and his wife Julia. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s-on-the-Highlands at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 25, 2024. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Foundation, 1910 12th Avenue South, Birmingham, Alabama 35205.
