Christopher Mayes Conner, 56, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after suffering a heart attack on December 18. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Chris was given a hero’s farewell through an Honor Walk and shared the ultimate gift of life through organ donation on December 26, 2025. It was his final act of generosity that perfectly reflected the way he lived. Those who knew Chris were never surprised by his selflessness. He lived with enthusiasm, kindness, and a deep commitment to making others feel valued and seen.
For more than 30 years, Chris was a proud member of the Highlands Bar and Grill and Bottega family, working alongside Frank and Pardis Stitt. His dedication and warmth made him a beloved part of Birmingham’s culinary community, where he built lasting friendships and touched countless lives.
Born on March 4, 1969, Chris grew up with a love for family, laughter, and adventure. He found joy in simple pleasures: camping under the stars, traveling to new places, savoring good food, and engaging in spirited conversations about music, politics, and sports. A loyal, long-suffering Chicago Cubs fan, Chris approached life with humor and optimism, even when cheering for his team tested his patience. More than anything else in life, Chris enjoyed being Blaire’s grandfather. They spent hours playing dolls, taking walks, and enjoying tea parties. His infectious energy and curiosity made every gathering brighter, leaving behind countless stories and cherished memories.
Chris believed in giving back. For many years, he spent time delivering Meals on Wheels alongside his wife, ensuring others felt cared for. His generosity extended beyond grand gestures. It was woven into everyday acts of kindness that effected many people from many walks of life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dawn Conner; his beloved sons, Sam and Jack Conner; and his precious granddaughter, Blaire Conner (daughter of Sam). He also leaves behind his siblings, Paul Mayes, Carol Mayes, Marsha Alhaija (Abdulla), William L. Conner Jr.(Lori), Rovene Coy, Jean Kahn(Joel); loving in-laws Joan Kennedy, Dennis and Sharon Kennedy; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on January 12, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 PM at Johns-Ridout’s in Homewood. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a man whose laughter, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Please keep Dawn, Sam, Jack, and Blaire in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, consider acts of kindness in Chris’s memory—because that is how he lived every day.
