
Cliff is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Hawkins Dotson
and his sister Mrs. Francis R. Ware (Janey) of Port Arthur, Tx.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark Blair Dotson of Monument, CO,
an infant son Gary Lynn Dotson, a brother Ray E. Dotson and his parents
Mr. & Mrs. Charles M. Dotson of Springfield, MO.
Cliff was born and raised in Springfield until 1937, when his family moved
to Birmingham. He attended Phillips High School and served with pride in
the Marine Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946…with final duty
in the South Pacific with Marine Bombing Squadron 613. He and Patsy were
married in 1947 while he was a student at Auburn University. Cliff graduated
from Auburn in 1949 with a Bachelor of Engineering Physics degree and spent
his entire professional career as a metallurgist with steel companies, in
metallurgical research, and as the owner of a metallurgical laboratory, testing
and consulting in metallurgical failure analysis. He was a member of several
professional technical societies, including Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honorary
fraternity…and was a registered professional engineer in Alabama, Texas and
California.
Cliff was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church (the Dotson Nelson Bible
Class), the Early Birds Tennis Group, The Club and Vestavia Country Club.
He will be remembered in a memorial service in the Chapel at Mountain Brook
Baptist Church at 11:00 am Friday morning, with visitation after the service in
Hudson Hall. Cliff’s request is that he be remembered by contributions to
Mountain Brook Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.
