Coke Lindsey age 80 of Homewood went to Heaven peacefully Thursday 5-31-18 after a hard fought battle with Gillian Barre syndrome. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Libby and precious dogs Leo and Betsy. He is survived by his brother Rodney(Annette) and niece and nephew and great niece and nephews. He is also survived by his wife's sister Susan Mackey (Mike) two nieces and great nephew. We spent many Friday evenings at dinner with Susan and Mike who are a blessing.
He loved people and loved dogs and other creatures. Very kind hearted, he contributed to several charities. He had a gift for songwriting and loved playing guitar.
Drs. Jim Cooley and Rich Hutchens of First Baptist of Birmingham became good friends to Coke over the last month of his illness in the hospital and brought him God's love and hope and comfort.
Thank you to his compassionate physicians Dr Wang Dr Truss Dr Broom Dr Shirah Dr Cavender Dr Ghandi Dr Stephen and others too numerous to mention. Thank you to his compassionate nurses especially on CCU and physical therapists and pastoral staff. A special thank you to his nephew in law Eric Brown for his kindness to Coke and assistance to the family.
Also thanks to Kyle DeLoach and Mike Mackey who helped before he went to the hospital and to Dr Paul Roller, Cliff Arcenaux PA, Comfort Care and Visiting Angels who helped before he went into the hospital.
Dr Jim Cooley will officiate the memorial service at First Baptist Church of Birmingham at 12 noon on Tuesday June 5.
