

Mr. Stelzenmuller attended Deep Springs College and graduated from Cornell University (A.B.) and Cornell Law School (LL.B.). He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Alabama National Guard, retiring with the rank of colonel. He served as a law clerk to Judge Elbert Tuttle, circuit judge U.S. Court of Appeals 5th Circuit, New Orleans and Atlanta. He was a member of the American, Alabama, and Birmingham Bar Associations, Order of the Coif, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Alpha Delta, and the Rotary Club. He was past editor of the Cornell Law Quarterly and a senior partner at the law firm of Burr and Forman in Birmingham, Alabama. He enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and working with stained glass.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Wood Stelzenmuller, his sons James Wood Stelzenmuller and William Michael Adams (Luann), his brothers Bernard E. Stelzenmuller and Robert Alan Stelzenmuller, and his sister Anne White.
Funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM graveside at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ridout’s Valley Chapel.
