

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Cristi Cannon Dixon of Birmingham; sons Mark Edwin (Erin) Dixon of Montgomery and Cannon David (Emily) Dixon of Birmingham; daughter Alice Caroline Dixon of Birmingham; and granddaughter Evelyn Louise Dixon of Birmingham. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Dixon Grotnes; nephews Alan (Kerri) Grotnes and Cal (Elizabeth) Grotnes; and four great nieces, all of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Margaret (Peggy) Dixon; sister, Carol Dean Dixon; and son, Bradford Dean Dixon.
David was born and raised in Birmingham. He graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1972, Auburn University in 1976 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and Stanford University in 1977 with a Master’s in Construction Management.
David joined Brasfield & Gorrie in 1977 and spent nearly 20 years in numerous roles, including estimating and project management, and he was instrumental in establishing the company’s Atlanta office. He retired as Vice President of the Office and Retail Division and served on the Board of Directors for many years. At his father’s request, he left Brasfield & Gorrie to lead the family’s investment office and foundation.
David served on numerous civic and corporate boards, including Children’s Harbor, the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Supporters Board (past president), Magic Moments, United Way, and The Colonial Company. He helped found the Civil Engineering Dept. Advisory Board at Auburn University, and as a longtime member of the Alabama Children’s Hospital Foundation Board, he was honored with the David E. Dixon Endowed Chair in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
David was a member of Rotary Club of Birmingham, Leadership Birmingham (1994), and recognized in BBJ’s Top 40 Under 40 (1988). He was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church and a longtime participant in Bible Study Fellowship.
David was an avid Auburn fan; loved his family, Lake Martin, running, and playing golf and tennis; and summited Mount Kilimanjaro in 2000. His family and friends will always remember his zest for life, incredible generosity, and loving spirit.
The family is forever grateful for the loving care of Lucile, Pat, Cynthia, Cookie, Katherine, Linda, and Teresa.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church on July 8, 2019 at 11:30 A.M., with visitation in the church parlor at 10:30 A.M.
