

David Albert Hansen, 82, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. He was born on October 8, 1942, in Panama to Albert Hansen and Mary Louise Gormley Hansen. Following his mother’s passing, he was lovingly raised by his stepmother, Ilavann Hansen Sims.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Hansen; his father-in-law, Francis Donahoe; his mother-in-law, Marie Agnes Desmond Donahoe; his sisters-in-law, Anne Farren (Jack) and Margie Baranski (Joe); and his brothers-in-law, Donald Luke (Marie) and Frank Strickland (Leslie). Later in life, David found companionship and joy with his wife, Juanita Daniels Hansen.
David is survived by his children, John Hansen of Homewood, Alabama, and Kristen Hansen of Jersey City, New Jersey. He was the proud grandfather of Samuel Hansen and Mary Elizabeth Hansen. He is also survived by his sisters: Rosemary Greer (Lee) of San Antonio, Texas; Kathryn Hansen of San Antonio, Texas; Jan Stump (Tom) of Lake Park, Georgia; Jeannie Cowart (Richard) of Valdosta, Georgia; and Leslie Strickland of Valdosta, Georgia. Additional surviving family members include his sister-in-law, Marie Luke of Douglasville, Georgia, and his brother-in-law, Frank Donahoe (Kathy) of Arlington, Virginia. He leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, and their families.
David proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years, a chapter of his life that remained a source of great pride. Following his military career, he continued his professional service with the Department of Revenue for the State of Alabama. His legacy of service - both to his country and to his community - lives on in the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A graveside service for family will be held on Thursday, September 11, at 1:15 p.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. Following this, a memorial service and reception will take place at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, Alabama, at 3:00 p.m., for family and invited guests.
