

Elizabeth “Betty” Katheryn Jackson Marable of Mountain Brook, AL, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021. She was born on January 8, 1935 to the late Dr. John Milton Jackson and Katheryn Holland Jackson and raised in Florence, AL. Betty attended Gulf Park Jr. Woman's College in Gulfport, MS her junior year of high school where she was a member of the Dance Club and Drama Team. Betty graduated from Coffee High School, Florence, AL and Athens State College, Athens, AL. Betty married the love of her life Askew Marable on September 28, 1952. While raising their family they lived in Macon, GA from 1961-1966, where she was a member of the Junior League of Macon. They then moved to Mountain Brook, AL in 1966. She was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, where she was a greeter and served for years on the Alter Guild. She and Askew were charter members of Inverness Country Club.
Betty enjoyed attending plays and concerts in many local theaters, dancing, fishing, reading, knitting, cooking, and tending to her gorgeous rose garden and numerous other flower gardens in her yard. She was also member of the Birmingham Rose Society and Garden Club.
Betty’s biggest passion was her family who brought her much joy and love. A better, more loving and doting wife, mother, sister, and grandmother you’ll never find. Betty loved the Lord with all her heart.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years Askew Marable. She is survived by her
sister: Joan Jackson Emmons of Sheffield, AL, children: John Jackson Marable (Missy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Katheryn Marable Newman (Sandy) of Mountain Brook, AL; grandchildren: James Askew Cooke (Dee) of Chelsea, AL, Morgan Jackson Cooke of Dallas, TX, Marjorie Marable Simms (Ben) of Opelika, AL, Melissa Conolly Marable of Clovis, NM, Mary Katheryn Marable of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her great grandchildren: James Beckett Cooke of Chelsea, AL, Walker Askew Cooke of Chelsea, AL, Wyatt Elizabeth Simms of Opelika, AL, and Jack Thomas Simms of Opelika, AL. Also left to treasure her memory are her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law, Shirlye Marable of Batesville, Arkansas.

The family would like to thank the following: St. Peter’s Anglican Church for the many prayers and visits from clergy and members and she always looked forward to her weekly home visits from Rev. Bryan White, Sr. Pastor. Also Shalon Henderson, proprietor of Simply Healing Hands Home Health Care, their sitters Angie, Meika, and Cynthia for the kindness and care they gave Betty. Also the staff of Expect Care Hospice.
A visitation for Betty will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 beginning at 10:00 AM with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
