Elmer Baker Evers

Elmer Gray Baker Evers, age 86, of Birmingham died on March 13, 2012. Mrs. Evers was born in North Carolina on October 17, 1925. She moved to Birmingham where she raised her family and worked as a registered nurse for over 35 years. She was an active and devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo Evers, her son Michael Evers, her grandson Gregory Scott Olander, and her great grandson Jackson Paul Smith.

She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Evers Smith, MaryLynn Evers Olander (Bo), Jean Evers Jones (Harold), and Barbara Evers Estep (Paul). She is also survived by her grandchildren Heather Smith, Benjamin "Buddy" Smith (JeAnne), Jenny Olander, Erin Olander, Amy Jones, Stephen Jones, Michelle Ripperdan (Brad), Paul Estep (Kelly), Mark Estep and Lindsey Estep. Other survivors include 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, brother Johnny Guy Baker, sisters Edith Bryant, Hilda Hoggard and Inez Robertson, and her sister-in-law Mary Evers and her brother-in-law Alvin Evers.

The family would like to thank all of the staff East Glen for the wonderful care and treatment they provided.

The family will receive friends Thursday March 15, 2012 from 9-10 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral mass will follow at 10. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Evers’ grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers, and her granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
