Eric Jonathan Hughes of Vestavia Hills died August 8, 2015 at the age of 37.
He graduated from Vestavia Hills High School, where he played basketball and
baseball and was a member of three consecutive baseball state championships.
He went to Birmingham Southern College where he was selected into Phi Beta
Kappa, was a member of Theta Chi National Fraternity, and was a member of
the baseball team. He received a D.M.D. from the University of Alabama
School of Dentistry and a M.P.H. from the University of Alabama at
Birmingham. He was an Orthodontic Resident at Case Western Reserve
University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he received a M.S.D. He worked at
Birmingham Orthodontics for two years before becoming owner of Tuscaloosa
Orthodontics in 2009.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Price Hughes and three beautiful
daughters, Elizabeth, Catherine and Lauren and his much loved dog, Molly.
He is also survived by his parents, Glenn and Patsy Hughes and a loving
great aunt, Faye Keesee (Bay). He was preceded in death by his
grandparents, Lewis and Ida Cole and Olden and Anne Hughes. He has been a
life-time member at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 12 from 12:30 p.m. at
Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church Parlor. A memorial service will
follow in The Sanctuary at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests
that donations be made to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, 2061
