

Selby, Eugenia Wimberly Smith died on Saturday February 15, 2014. Mrs. Selby was born on March 11, 1923 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Gillespy and Thomas Felton Wimberly, her sister Mary Wimberly and her brother Thomas Felton Wimberly, Jr. (Margaret Tutwiler). Eugenia also was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Robert McDavid Smith. She is survived by their children Eugenia Hunter Edwards (Bill), Robert Patton Smith and Felton Wimberly Smith (Carolyn), grandchildren Robert Smith Hunter and James Edward Whitley (Jennifer) and nephew, Thomas Felton Wimberly III (Jill). She was preceded in death by her husband Don Paul Selby and survived by his children Fred Selby (Mary Jo), Kay Buhl (Scott), Paula Kavanaugh (Bill) and Ann Vessells (Darrel).
Eugenia was graduated from Pine Manor Junior College, Wellesley, MA and from Duke University, Class of 1945. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. After graduation, she was employed by the American Red Cross as a Field Service Representative. Mrs. Selby was dedicated to community service having served on the boards of Cahaba Girl Scout Council, Neighbor House, Junior League and as Scholarship Chairman and President of the Linly Heflin Unit. She was both a Cub Scout and Brownie Scout leader and a volunteer instructor in the Mountain Brook Junior High School Dyslectic program. A long time active member of Highlands United Methodist Church, she later joined South Highland Presbyterian Church to be with her husband. She was a member of the Cambridge Study Club and an associate member of the John Park Custis Chapter of D.A.R.
The family expresses their appreciation to caregivers Dorothy Brown and Sandra Powell.
A memorial service will be held at South Highland Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 2:00 in the Chapel with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 at the Church in the Builder’s Classroom.
In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorials being made to South Highland Presbyterian Church at 2030 Highland Avenue, 35205 or to the Linly Heflin Unit Scholarship Fund at 13 Office Park Circle, 35223.
