Evelyn Reeves Shelton

SHELTON, EVELYN REEVES Evelyn Reeves Shelton, age 80, of Birmingham, passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years David Houston Shelton, her sisters Jeannette Miller, Virginia Williams, and Catherine Parsons, and her brother Billy Reeves. She is survived by her three children Diane Waud (Bill) Debra Windham (Charles), and Lloyd Shelton (Sarah); her six grandchildren Edward Waud, Elizabeth Luke (Geoff), Josey Windham, Mims Windham, David Shelton, and Dannelly Shelton; her brother Robert Lee Reeves; as well as many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was an employee with First Alabama and Regions banks and is remembered fondly by customers of the Eastwood Mall and Cahaba Heights branches. She was a longstanding member of Brookwood Baptist Church where she is best known for her years of service to the toddler Sunday School program as well as Brookwood Builders for Christ. She received the Wade Ragsdale Silent Warrior Award in recognition for her tireless efforts on the kitchen crew of the building mission trips. Evelyn graduated from Phillips High School. Visitation will be held Thursday evening 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Brookwood Baptist Church. A private graveside service will follow on Friday morning. A memorial service will be held at Brookwood Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Brookwood Baptist Builders for Christ or the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.
