Fred A. Brown, died on Christmas Eve. A native of Birmingham, he had fought a long illness, with his trademark great humor and strong faith. He had been active in the food industry during all his adult life and was President and CEO of Brown-Stagner Food Brokers for many years. Mr. Brown held a degree in Business Administration from Jacksonville University. He had been a member of the Food Sales Executive Club and the National Association of Food Brokers. He was a member of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, where he had served on the Board of Deacons, chaired the Stewardship Committee, had been Senior High Youth Fellowship Leader as well as serving on the board of the Shades Valley Foundation. He held memberships in Willow Point Country Club, The Club, and the Globetrotters. He had been an active sportsman and member of Five Star Plantation. Mr. Brown had served on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association and was a founding member of the American Liver Foundation's Alabama Chapter. He was the recipient of the American Liver Foundation's Humanitarian Award. In addition to his love of Birmingham, for many years he and his family had also enjoyed friends and wonderful years at Lake Martin, where he enjoyed attending the Church in the Pines and providing support to Children's Harbor. He was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Christin Brown Mueller. He is survived by his beloved family: his wife, Susan O'Hear Brown; his daughter; Raines Brown Moore and husband Franklin Moore III; and granddaughters Grace Allen Moore and Caroline Eames Moore; sister Patricia Brown MacLean; as well as by his nieces and nephews. Fred Brown was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his great sympathy and understanding of his fellow man. He was a man of quiet personal generosity. A family man and friend, he brought countless hours of pleasure and support to his wife, children and grandchildren, and extended family. Visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 30. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. The family suggests memorials in his name to Children's Harbor, One Our Children's Highway, Alexander City, Alabama 35010.
