Gertrude Collins Simpson

Trudy Collins Simpson, age 88, of Hueytown, AL, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024. She was born in Birmingham and raised her children in Vestavia Hills. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Hueytown, and a former member of Highlands Methodist Church in Birmingham. She was a graduate of Shades Valley High School and attended Auburn University. She was a proud member of Auburn’s Phi Mu Sorority.

Trudy is preceded in death by her parents, James and Eleanor Box, her husband of 40 years, John K Collins, her husband of 6 years, Bill Simpson, and her siblings Eleanor Forbes and Jimmy Box. Her son, Johnny Collins preceded her on July 31, 2023. Trudy is survived by her two daughters, Ann Collins of Boston and Betsy Simpson of Hueytown; grandchildren Kelley Sisson, Grace Stanton, Abbie Murphey, Kody and Conner Collins, Leah, Aiden, Eleanor Sherman-Collins and 13 great grandchildren. The family is extremely grateful to the loving caregivers at Self Skilled Nursing, Hueytown and Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.

We will especially miss her sense of humor and infectious laugh.

A visitation for Trudy will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
