

SUTTLE, GERTRUDE HEARN Gertrude Hearn Suttle died January 27, 2011, at home surrounded by her 'girls'. She was born in Birmingham February 27, 1919, to Columbus and Mary Ann Walker Hearn. She married Joseph Berry Suttle in 1937, and is survived by their three daughters, Carolyn Edge (Arthur) of Birmingham, Jo Ann Piet (David) of Peachtree City, GA, and Rebecca Galletly (Collin) of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Art Edge, III, Jennifer Edge McMahon (Bill), Laura Edge Morrison (Gregg), all of Birmingham, Shannon Leigh Piet, Fayetteville, GA, Cameron Piet Harper (Richard), Newnan, GA; Eric Thompson, Northport, AL, and Daniel Thompson (Melanie) of Birmingham; four great grandchildren: Lindsey McMahon, Reed McMahon, Scott Morrison, Katherine Morrison, all of Birmingham; sister, Mary Lou Hearn Watkins; several nieces and nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B.; her parents; six sisters; and four brothers. She loved her Lord, her family, and her church. She was a member of the former Tenth Avenue Baptist Church as a young girl; Twelfth Street Baptist in Gadsden, AL during the WWII years; and a member of Ruhama Baptist for 55 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher to children for many years, member of WMU, and the Dorcas Ladies' Bible class. For the past ten years, she was a member of Huffman Baptist Church. The family is indebted to Janice Ford, Betty Kean, and Odyssey Hospice for their help and loving care to all the family. Also, many thanks to the Homebound ministries of Huffman Baptist Church, Shades Mountain Baptist Church, and the Loving Touch Ministry of McElwain Baptist Church. Memorial celebration will be held at 3 pm Sunday, Jan. 30, at Valley Chapel in Homewood, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Dr. Gregg S. Morrison will officiate. Pallbearers will be Arthur Edge, LTC David Piet, Collin Galletly, Art Edge, III, Eric Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Bill McMahon, and Richard Harper.
