

Harold Armstrong Phillips, 91, was born near Watertown, TN. His family relocated to Homewood, where he graduated from Shades Cahaba High School in 1940. Harold attended the University of Alabama before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He piloted an A-26 “Havoc” in the South Pacific, and was among the American occupation forces of Japan. Harold completed his accounting degree and went to work for Southern Natural Gas, retiring after thirty-six years of service. He was a long-time member of Oakmont United Methodist in Homewood, and an avid outdoorsman, gardener, and woodworker. He and his fellow woodworkers created and donated thousands of hand-made toys to Children’s of Alabama before Christmas of each year.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Ruth (Armstrong) Phillips, and his brother Richard Phillips. Harold and his wife Dorothy Nunley Phillips celebrated over 60 years of marriage prior to her death. He is survived by children Harold Jr. (Donna) Phillips, Dr. Linda Phillips Riley and Emmett Given, James (Susan) Phillips, grandchildren Bradley Phillips, Haley Phillips, Tonja Lecklitner (Jim) Bridges, Hilary Riley (John) Foreman, Neely Phillips, Sean Phillips, and his beloved great-grandchildren Margaret Bridges, Ben Bridges, James Bridges, Jasper Foreman, and Cora Grace Foreman.
