Henry Newell Crawford

Henry Newell Crawford, age 93 of Homewood, Al, died on July 18, 2017 at South Haven Nursing Home. A family graveside service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017, 11:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery directed by Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Mr. Crawford was born in Nixburg, AL and grew there. He was a graduate of Coosa County High School and Birmingham Southern College. He was employed by United States Steel for more than 30 years. He served in the European Theater during World War II and retired from the Army Reserve as a 1st Lieutenant. Mr. Crawford was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor, Paul Patton of Kentucky. Mr. Crawford is survived by his sister, Sara Nolen of Gadsden, AL; his daughter, Dianne Fargason and her husband, John of Vestavia Hills, AL; grandson, Johnny Fargason and his wife, Krissie of Hoover, AL and grandson, Christopher Crawford of St. Petersburg, FL and great grandson, John Lawson Fargason.

Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Arline; his son, Daniel and his wife Sara of Homewood, AL. Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at South Haven Nursing Home. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the charity of your choice.
