
Age 71, died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home in Homewood, AL.
Alan was raised in Baldwin, GA and graduated from South Habersham High School, University of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia.
Alan served in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1972, which included a tour in Vietnam as a Battalion Surgeon with the Second Battalion, 7th Marines out of DaNang, RVN. During this time he received the Silver Star Medal and a Navy Commendation Medal. He then served as General Medical Officer at US Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA.
After leaving the Navy he returned to Birmingham to complete his general surgery residency under Dr. John Kirkland. He then joined Dr. Lamar Smith and Dr. Doug Rollins in private practice. He later joined Drs. Bucky Wood and Richard Lytle in their private practice, eventually adding Dr. Steve Heinzman and Dr. William Wood III. He retired from surgery in 2012 and became the CEO of Outpatient Services East where he worked until the time of his passing.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Henry H. Perry. He is survived by his mother, Lenora Burnett Perry, his two brothers, Michael B. Perry (Celenda) and David L. Perry (Yadira). He is also survived by his children, Henry A. Perry, Jr., Brian G. Perry, Leonra J. Perry, Teal Perry Cuellar (Christian), Alexander Perry and John Perry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will hold the Memorial Service Friday, October 12, 2012 at 5:00 pm with visitation following at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL.
The family asks that memorials in memory of Dr. H. Alan Perry be made to the charity of your choice.
