

Arrangements under the directionBRIDGES, JACK CYRUS Jack Cyrus Bridges, age 83, of Vestavia Hills passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011. Mr. Bridges was born on September 27, 1927 to Chester Cyrus Bridges and Elizabeth Bridges in Notasulga, Alabama. He graduated from Notasulga High School at age 18 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 serving two years. After the Army he went to API (Auburn University) and after graduating from Auburn, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving another two years including time in Korea. Then coming back to Auburn, Mr. Bridges, who majored in accounting, taught at the University as a graduate fellow in graduate school. He then joined Coopers and Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) and worked in Illinois. After four years he came back to Birmingham. After 1986 he became Partner in Charge of the Coopers Lybrand Office. Mr. Bridges served on many boards in the Birmingham area including Certified Public Accounting Club, N.A.A., and served as an officer in both. He served on the Accounting Board at Auburn University and on the Board of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. He was voted the most "successful accounting" graduate of Auburn University in 1960. Mr. Bridges helped many accounting graduates find jobs in their field. He was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi at Auburn and a member of the Covenant Class at Vestavia Hills United Methodist. After retiring from Price Watherhouse Coopers he went to Samford University. He taught Accounting for five years and served as Assistant Dean of the Accounting School. After this, he went into consulting and then had a business in greed and fraud enjoying both of his jobs. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Bridges; two children, Linda Dixon (Doug) of Dallas, Texas and Rodney Bridges (Eri) of Birmingham, Alabama. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Troy, Paul, and Delaney Dixon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9th, at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood with burial immediately following at Elmwood Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Carol Haynes and Montequia Haynes, his nurses, in the care of Jack. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood of Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL.
