

Dr. James Harper Larose, age 80, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, August 26th, 2018, at his home. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane Bergeret Larose; his two children, Jeanne Larose (Robert E. Bodenheimer Jr.) of Nashville, TN, and Michael Bergeret Larose, of Brooklyn, NY; his two grandchildren, Benjamin Larose Bodenheimer and Rebecca Mae Larose Bodenheimer; his sister, Marion Harper LaRose of Cypress, TX; his brother, J. Henry LaRose of Jackson, MS; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Joseph Henry Larose and Marion Harper Larose of New Orleans, LA.
A native of New Orleans, Dr. Larose graduated from Jesuit High School, and received undergraduate and medical degrees from Tulane University. He was in numerous honor societies. After interning at Lloyd Noland Hospital, he became a Captain in the US Army, serving on the DMZ in Korea from 1964-1966. While in Korea he earned his 2nd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He completed his Radiology residency at Grady Memorial Hospital and was a Fellow in the Academy of Nuclear Physicians at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He received a Masters in Radiology from Emory University and served as an Assistant Professor there.
He practiced medicine for 52 years including Cooper Green Hospital in Birmingham and in private practice in Montgomery and Auburn. He completed his career at the VA hospital in Montgomery and Tuskegee. He was a founding member and Fellow of the American College of Nuclear Physicians and Fellow of the American College of Radiology. In 1986 he served as a Physician Expert to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Nuclear Cardiology in Pakistan. He co-authored over 30 scientific papers and 9 book chapters.
He was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and was honored with the Silver Beaver Award by the Tukabatchee Council in Montgomery. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the St. Andrew’s Society of the Middle South, and the Knights of Columbus. He loved gardening, genealogy, and was devoted to his faith.
Visitation will be held at 10 am and the memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 14th, 2018, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Birmingham, AL. Interment will be in the family tomb in New Orleans at a later date.
