Jan Harris Bailey

died on June 6th 2012 at the age of 69. She was the daughter of Leonard W. and Vivian Clinkscales Harris, both deceased. She was reared in Atlanta, GA., but later moved to Birmingham, and received her BA and MS degrees from Samford University. Most of her career was spent in social work and fraud investigation for the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Jan was a long-term member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and dedicated to being a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was active in numerous church, community, and arts organizations and loved to volunteer and travel.

She survived her son John Bailey, Jr., his wife Laura, and beloved granddaughters Libby, Clara Kate, and Maggie. She is also survived by a brother David Harris (PollyAnna), of Knoxville, Tn., and niece and nephews, Paula Morrison, David Jr. Harris, and Frank Harris.

There will be a visitation Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Memorials can be made to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for the Edgar Arendall Children’s Building. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
