Born and raised in Birmingham, Jane attended Avondale School and The Brooke Hill School (now The Altamont School). She graduated from Goucher College, where she played basketball and cultivated a life-long love of art. In 1959, she met Frank McFadden, a young lawyer from Mississippi who had moved to Birmingham by way of New York, and they married September 30, 1960. Jane was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, The Little Garden Club, Cadmean Circle, Independent Presbyterian Church, and, later, St. Mary’s on the Highlands Episcopal Church. She lived in Montgomery from 1982-2017, where she served on the board of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the altar guild of Grace Episcopal Church, and was a member of the Antiquarian Society. During her life she maintained a beautiful home, threw a great party, and had a great wit. She never failed to be kind. In accordance with her wishes, she departed this life in peace and entered the next one with hope.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Jane Porter and Drayton Nabers. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Frank Hampton McFadden, brother Drayton Nabers, Jr., sister Susan Nabers Haskell, son Frank Hampton McFadden, Jr. (Harriet), son Angus Nabers McFadden (Kristin), daughter Jane Porter McFadden (Patrick), grandson Frank Hampton McFadden III, granddaughter Frances Kendrick McFadden, grandson Everett McFadden Lakey and granddaughter Jane Maren Lakey.
The family offers deep gratitude to Benita Fay, Vinnie Billingsley, Molly James, Juliette Orr, and Michelle Rose, who helped Jane through the last months of her life.
