
John Philip Anderson, age 95 of Birmingham, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015. Phil graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in chemistry, and went to work for DuPont during the war. He and his family moved to Birmingham in 1952, and he worked with Hayes International. Later he was a chemical engineer with US Pipe, before his retirement. Following his retirement he enjoyed his blueberry farm in St. Clair county. Phil and his wife Peg were charter members at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Phil was dedicated to the work of Gideon’s International and local church ministries. Following his wife’s passing, Phil spent 2 pleasurable years living at Town Village in Vestavia. He was a joy to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years Margaret “Peg” Wimmer Anderson, his parents John Alfred Anderson and Ellen Danielsson Anderson; brother Raymond Anderson; and sister Ruth Griesheimer. He is survived by his daughters: Karen Amling and Lisa (Jay) Benton; his grandchildren: Bill (Hester) Benton, Kate (Nathan) Button and Suzi (Dave) McKibben ; his great grandchildren: Holland, Rynn, Daniel and Alex and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 1300 p.m. in the chapel of Briarwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Cushman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
