With deepest sorrow, we are sharing the loss of our beloved son Joseph Brice David Blackmon who was welcomed into the loving arms of our gracious Heavenly Father on January 19, 2026. He was 15 years old.
Brice was born on March 25, 2010, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a student at Mountain Brook Junior High School and an active member of Brookwood Baptist Church and his youth group.
Brice had a naturally curious mind and love for learning, especially in Science and Math. He eagerly sought to expand his knowledge about his Christian faith as well as other religions and their traditions. He loved superhero movies, listening to music of all genres, fishing with buddies, riding his electric bike with friends, drawing and sketching, building Legos and model sets, and playing video games that used his design talent (he had been working on his “mansion” on Minecraft – complete with a house on the property for his parents “for when you guys are old.”) He was gentle to Bennett and he loved and admired his brothers Collin and Jack. Brice also enjoyed playing the piano and guitar. Most of all he loved his friendships and his family, who all cherished him. He was inclusive, silly, intelligent, artistic, fun, loving and interested. He loved deeply and made others feel seen.
Since a very, very young age, Brice studied his Bible and surrounded himself with books on his faith. As he entered his junior high years, Brice developed a remarkable trait of reaching out to others and asking them how he could pray on their behalf. He was not intimidated or ashamed at all to ask this - to anyone! He let his light and love for the Lord shine always. Sharing the Gospel came naturally to him. Mark 16:15.
Brice was generous and thoughtful. On a recent driving lesson, he saw a homeless man and immediately emptied his wallet for him. While at the grocery store to get a snack, he picked up a bouquet of flowers for Molly just to brighten her day. He would share anything he had with anyone, without prompt, and without pause. He was very funny – he had a quick wit and was easygoing, even when he was on the receiving end of teasing from his brothers. He was a peaceful person in so many ways.
Following a hard year marked by removal of a cancerous tumor, the loss of his grandfather, and the unexpected death of his biological mother, Brice was vulnerable to the enemies’ lies and his battle with depression began 1 Peter 5:8. Those closest to him worked hard to protect him with all of the spiritual and physical tools he might need for this battle. Ephesians 6:10-17. We share this with profound love and hope that others will grant him grace and hold close his memory as the joyful soul he was, the light of Jesus that shown through him, and the kindness he shared to others. Matthew 5:16.
Our family is deeply grateful for the compassion and support our community has poured out since his shocking passing. Every message, visit, prayer and loving thought has sustained us. We know Brice’s light will continue to shine in our lives though his earthly body is gone from our home.
Brice is survived by his father David Alan Blackmon, his stepmother Molly Davenport Blackmon, his brothers James Bennett Blackmon, Collin Christopher Hamilton and John (Jack) Ross Hamilton. He loved his North Carolina family also which included his grandparents Joe and Marraruth Capell. We will miss him every day until we see him again in Heaven.
We will celebrate his life on Thursday, January 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Mountain Brook Baptist Church with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Exceptional Foundation, a resource that his beloved brother continues to enjoy, or Brookwood Baptist Church.
Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205.879.3401) in Homewood.
