Judy graduated from Phillips High School, obtained a B.A.in elementary education from Bob Jones University, a M.A. in secondary education from Birmingham-Southern College, and a M.A. in administrative education from Samford University. Whether studying or teaching, her favorite subject was English Literature. She was an avid reader, and had quite an extensive library of her favorite books!
Judy co-founded Alliance Christian Schools, where she taught and was the principal. She also taught and was principal at both Shelby Baptist Christian School and Glen Iris Baptist School. Although retired, she continued substitute teaching at GIBS as recently as this past school year.
Teaching was her ministry, and she influenced so many students during her 60+ years in education. Although she had no children of her own, she had thousands of students and proudly followed many of them throughout their lives. She loved to tend her yard and beautiful flower gardens at both of their homes in Hoover and Wears Valley.
Judy was a faithful member of Glen Iris Baptist Church, worshiping and serving alongside her husband. Her favorite Bible verse was Galatians 2:20, and her favorite hymn was “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross”. She is now in her permanent home in heaven, worshipping at the feet of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Surely she heard “Well done, good and faithful servant”.
She is preceded in death by her parents Euel Braxton Hammond and Bessie Lee Ella Craig Hammond, her brother Donald Braxton Hammond, and her husband of 60 years Braxton Phillip Adams.
Judy is survived by her brother John Michael (Alice)Hammond, and her sister, Rachel Suzanne (David) Hammond Cobb, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service was held with interment in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville. A celebration and memorial service for her will be held at a later date.
