It is with great sadness that the family of Linda McAnnally Nicholls announces her passing on Friday, March 2, after a courageous fight with Alzheimer’s disease. Linda was born to Louis and Margaret McAnnally on August 14, 1939, in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Ensley High School where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She attended Auburn University and afterward started her family with three daughters; Debbie Lewis (Rick), Suzanne Moseley (Mike) and Stephanie Sklar (Brad). Linda married Joseph Nicholls and added five more children to her growing family – Diane Nicholls, Ed Nicholls, Kenny Nicholls (Amanda), Mike Nicholls and Chris Nicholls. In addition to her children she is survived by her sisters; Patsy Johnson (Joe) and Carolyn Steelman (Bobby). Linda was “Mimi” to ten grandchildren who gave her more joy than they will ever know; Jennifer Lewis, Preston Lewis, Isabella Moseley, Gibson Moseley, Lauren Sklar, Sarah Ruth Nicholls, Katie Nicholls, Matthew Nicholls, Josh Nicholls and Amanda Nicholls. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren; Ella, Alex and Gunner Nicholls. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 34 years, Joseph Nicholls.
Linda was heavily involved in many causes near to her heart during her life including serving as a candy striper at St. Vincent’s Hospital, serving as a member of the vestry at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, where she attended regularly and served in the Alter Guild. She and her husband, Joe, gave generously to Children’s Harbor and King’s Ranch. Linda had a lifelong love of animals and their welfare, of cooking, of gardening and above all, of her family.
The family would like to give special thanks to Gena, Amy, Marci, Kathy and all of her caretakers who were with Linda as loyal and devoted companions. They are truly angels on Earth! The family also expresses much appreciation to Pam, Lise and the volunteers at the CJFS CARES Respite Program for enriching her life during her last two years.
A private celebration of Linda’s life will be held at her home for her family. She was an incredibly strong, amazing woman and will always be missed by those who knew her best.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Alabama, the Shelby County Humane Society or Children’s Harbor.
