Marcia was born on July 30, 1958, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Oakley W. Melton Jr. and Melba Studdard Melton. She grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and attended Sidney Lanier High School and went on to graduate from The University of Alabama, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Advertising. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and formed lifelong friendships that remained an important part of her life.
After graduation, Marcia enjoyed a successful career in advertising with companies in both Atlanta and Montgomery. She later opened her own stationery and invitation business and, in later years, worked alongside her husband, Adams in his business.
Marcia is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 40 years, Adams Frazer Hudson: her son, Richard Davis (Jacquie); her grandson, Oakes Andrew Hudson; and her daughter, Frances Bentley (Michael) Jackson. She is also survived by four siblings: Ree Melton Smith (Sage), Oakley Melton III (Diane), Lee Melton Herman (David) and Ben Melton; sister-in-law, Robin Hudson Williams; brother-in-law, Richard Hudson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and a dear uncle, Dr. Jerry Studdard.
Marcia loved people and had a gift for making others feel seen, heard, and welcomed. Everyone knew her radiant, dimpled smile-- the kind that could light up a room and instantly put others at ease. Beneath her calm and sweet demeanor was a wonderful wit that often led to laughter, and sometimes to tears. No matter the circumstance, she carried a joyful spirit and always saw the glass as half full.
She possessed a quiet strength, steady determination, and a faith that never wavered. Marcia became a Master Gardener and found great joy in flowers, nature, and God’s creation. Whether running, walking, or simply enjoying the outdoors, she delighted in the beauty around her.
Marcia was also a wonderful planner of trips and gatherings, creating lasting memories for the people she loved. Even in the things she most enjoyed, she found ways to make life more beautiful for others. She valued people deeply and placed their well-being above her own, never seeking recognition or attention. To know her was to be cared for by her.
A devoted woman of faith, Marcia was an active member of Good News Church in Santa Rosa Beach. Her life reflected the words “good and faithful servant,” lived out daily with humility, kindness, and grace. The Master Gardener is now tending the Master’s Garden.
A service of celebration of Marcia’s beautiful life will be held Sunday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Good News Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida with Reverend Brad Goode officiating. A visitation and reception will follow at the church.
