Margaret Louise Howell Duncan, age 97, of Homewood passed away Jan. 7, 2015. Born in Hopewell, VA, she was the daughter of George Washington Howell and Ethel Mercedes Norris. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ellis, Norris, and Bernice, and her devoted husband of 69 years, John. Margaret grew up in Roanoke, VA and attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Jacksonville, FL. She met John in Jacksonville and married in 1941. After living in FL, where she was a private duty nurse, they moved to Birmingham in 1962. She worked for Children’s Hospital for 17 years. They were members of Trinity United Methodist Church, Chase Lake Country Club, The Club, and various dance clubs. Margaret was active in Trinity’s UMW, Mother’s Club and her bridge club. She loved gardening and reading and was a seamstress for her children in her younger years. She and John traveled all over the world and loved their times in Orange Beach, AL with family and friends. She was a kind and generous southern lady, faithful to her church, supportive of her friends and children. She leaves us all a wonderful example of commitment to family and trust in God.
