Mark was a well educated and generous man who spent three years in The Peace Corps after graduating from Auburn. Upon returning to the U.S. from South America, he worked in Savannah doing historic preservation in the downtown area. He moved back to Alabama, got a Masters degree from the University of Alabama, and later, a Ph.D from the University of Florida. He maintained an architectural practice in Office Park until June of this year.
Because Mark was fluent in Spanish, he was active in St Catharine’s ESL program and was asked to translate for the Bishop on occasion. He recently wrote and had published a book in Spanish based on his travels to Mexico. The history and archeological finds from these travels were preserved photographically by Mark’s keen eye and his trusty camera that was always with him.
Mark was a gentle man who lived a humble life surrounded by the forests and fields of the Chelsea that he loved. He is survived by a sister, Cynthia L. Wilson and her husband Craig Smith of Hendersonville, NC.
A memorial service will be on the 18th of August, 2022 beginning at eleven o'clock in the morning at St. Catharine's Episcopal Church in Chelsea AL. Memorial gifts in memory of Mark Lindsay may be made to the building fund at St Catharines Church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridoutsvalleychapel.com for the Lindsay family.
