

Marvin Chapman Perry died peacefully in Birmingham, Alabama on October 27, 2018 at the age of 97. Marvin is survived by 2 sons (Marvin C. Perry, II and David C. Perry), 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Thomas Werdner Perry, Annie Lou Perry, Edwina Perry Lavender, Edward Meredith Perry, Mary Perry Fisher, John Harold Perry, and Frances Perry Patrick Harris. Also preceding him in death was Lora P. Perry, his wife of 70 years and 1 son, Preston Cannady Perry. Marvin was born on December 5, 1920 near Havana in Hale County, Alabama to Ed W. Perry and Lallie Chapman Perry. During World War II Marvin answered the call of his country and served as a transport pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. 1st Lieutenant Marvin C. Perry distinguished himself while flying men and materials over "the Hump," the treacherous China, India, Burma route over the Himalaya Mountains. He was a graduate of Auburn University, where he met Lora, his devoted wife of 70 years. Following graduation from Auburn Marvin worked for TCI (Tennessee Coal and Iron) for a short period until starting work with the Alabama Power Company, where he worked almost 38 years until his retirement in January 1986. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Visitation for Mr. Perry will be Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL with the funeral service at 11:00 AM. There will be a reception following the service in Edgewood Parlor. Burial will be at 2:45 PM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
