Mary M. Anderton

Mary M. Anderton (née Mims), age 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023, after a prolonged illness. Mary was born December 18, 1925 to the late Samuel and Nettie Mims in Thorsby, Alabama. She met and married F. Norman Anderton, originally from Moulton, Alabama, in August 1946. They lived together in various locations in central Alabama, Memphis, Tennessee, and ultimately Birmingham, where Norman worked as an executive for Vulcan Materials Company until retiring. They were married for almost 63 years, until Norman’s death in 2009.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband F. Norman Anderton, her daughters Norma Gayle Jones and Joy Faye Anderton, and grandson Michael Norman Jones. She is survived by her children Mary Ann Clover of St. George, Utah, Keith Mims Anderton (Frances) of Mountain Brook, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, July 7, 2023 in the chapel of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Graveside services will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
