Mary Jean Beatty

Mary Jean Beatty, 86, of Vestavia Hills, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Dr. Dan Troy Beatty, and grandson Craig Shipley BeattyJr. Survivors include sons Troy Beatty (Melanie) of Green Pond, Randy Beatty (Becky) of Homewood, Mark Beatty (Maggie) of Stuart, Fla., and Craig Beatty (Judy) of Mountain Brook; daughter Susan Beatty Carpenter (John) of Thorsby; grandchildren Ashley Ryan, Lisa Riddle, Lauren Cirel, Jessica Trammell (Kris), Matthew Beatty, Mark Beatty, Mary Celia Beatty, Anthony Gallagher, Melissa Gallagher, Allison Beatty, Madelyn Beatty, Lily Beatty, Jack Beatty and John Gorby Carpenter; and great grandchildren Dylan Cirel, Bree Trammel and Kason Trammell. She was a native of Baltimore, attended Mount Saint Agnes College and graduated Union Memorial School of Nursing. Member Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, Stitchers, and served as receptionist many years. Member of Sprig of Holly Garden Club, The Club, bridge club and past member Services Guild of Birmingham and Gaieties Dance Club. She started her career in nursing, resigned to raise five children, returned to nursing in 1988 after the death of her husband, then retired from nursing after additional 10 years at age 75. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook with burial at Elmwood Cemetery immediately following. Family will receive visitors in at 10 a.m. preceeding the service in The Founders Room at the church. Arrangements under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL.
