

As an active member of Highlands United Methodist Church, she served as President of the UMW and was the oldest active member of the Caroline Griffin Sunday School Class. She was also an active member of numerous civic and social clubs and loved to play bridge with her friends.
Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William Hawkins “Bill” Ellis, her sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and John Saucier, and her son-in-law, William E. Woods.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Steve Morton, her son and daughter-in-law, Durham W. and Louise Ellis, six grandchildren along with their husbands and wives, Ashley Ellis Tierney (Brian), Scott Ellis (Holley), Chris Woods (Diane), Glenn Woods, Ellis Woods (Laurie) and Elizabeth Woods Walters (Chad). She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends. The family would like to thank her loving caregivers Deborah Cosby, Waymon Klein, Susie Ann Davis and Kimberly Hollins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28th at Ridout’s Valley Chapel beginning at 1:00 P.M. with the funeral service following at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her memory be made to Highlands United Methodist Church, 1045 20th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35205 or other charity of choice.
