

Maxine Gray Thigpen was born February 19, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama to Jewel Moore Gray and Robert Ward Gray. She spent part of her childhood in Attalla, Alabama and the rest of her youth in Birmingham and was a graduate of Phillips High School. She attended Howard College (Samford University) where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
Maxine was a member of The Birmingham Postcard Club, a Life Member of Samford’s Legacy League, Delta Zeta Alumni, and UFDC. She is retired from the State of Alabama Health Department and was a member of Horizon Church Assemblies of God, Vestavia, Alabama.
Maxine was the wife of the late Wesley Charles Thigpen, Sr. for 54 years. She is survived by her children: Wesley Charles Thigpen, Jr. (Donna) Red Bay, Alabama, Robert Woodrow Thigpen (Tammie) Titus, Alabama, and Melody Ann Thigpen Stevens (Robert) Madison, Alabama; her grandchildren: Jimmy Charles Thigpen, Cincinnati, Ohio, Samuel Clements Thigpen (Lindsey), Vestavia, Alabama, John Wesley Thigpen, Charlotte, North Carolina, Jacob Daniel Thigpen, Titus, Alabama, Rachel Ann Stevens Brayman (Jackson) Nashville, Tennessee, and Courtney Elizabeth Stevens, Auburn, Alabama. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dr. Richard A. Thigpen (Mary Ann), Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Jimmy Thigpen, Samuel Thigpen, John Thigpen, Jacob Thigpen, her grandson-in-law Jackson Brayman, and her nephew Mark Thigpen.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1 pm with the funeral service following at 2 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Ridout's Valley Chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
